Case: Poor paint adhesion with new solvent
Leistung: Troubleshooting
Arbeitsaufwand: 14 hours
1.
Initial situation
Due to legal requirements, a manufacturer of specialty paints was forced to replace the solvent in its paint with a more environmentally friendly one. However, the new solvent significantly reduced the adhesion of the paint to certain surfaces, making the product unsuitable for some applications.
2.
Solution and services
We found that the weaker intermolecular interactions of the new solvent with the paint affected adhesion. We then developed a selection of suitable solvents that would enable better adhesion and presented the customer with a concept for targeted evaluation. The series of tests were then carried out by the customer based on our recommendations. After a joint evaluation, we decided on the solvent that the customer is still using successfully today.
